Minimally invasive surgery for remnant gastric cancer and gastric stump recurrent cancer

2008
Objective To investigate the feasibility of laparoscopic radical gastrectomy for remnant gastric cancer and gastric stump recurrent cancer. Methods Laparoscope gastrectomy was performed in 4 cases of remnant gastric cancer and 4 cases of gastric stump recurrent cancer. The operative procedures and techniques were analyzed. Results Six cases were treated successfully by laparoscopy radical gastrectomy,1 case by laparoscopy palliative gastrectomy, and 1 case by transferring to open surgery. The average operative time was (310±50) min, average blood loss was (190±80) ml,and the average number of lymph nodes dissected was (17.5±6). The mean time for the treatment of flatula was (3.5±1.5) d,administration of oral liquids was (3.5±1.5) d,and the time point for patients to get out of bed was at (4±1.5) d. No postoperative complications occurred. Eight cases were followed up for 4 to 13 months. One case was diagnosed with hepatic metastasis. Conclusion Laparoscopic gastrectomy is feasible for remnant gastric cancer and gastric stump recurrent cancer. Compared to open surgery,it is minimal invasiveness and rehabilitation of patients is faster.
