Whole-body vibration training for knee osteoarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

2015
Results: The non-exercise group demonstrated significantly different trend of changes in left multifidus compared to the exercise group (p= 0.03). The left multifidus of the exercise group demonstrated increases of thickness at rest, while the non-exercise group demonstrated decreases of resting thickness. However, both group demonstrated significant increase in NDI at 6th month (p= 0.03). Other measurements in patients, including VAS, axial symptom, TUG and muscle strength, have no significant difference. Conclusion(s): Patients underwent single level ACDF demonstrate different patterns of change of thickness of multifidus at 6th month. Motor control training targeting the activation of the deep neck muscles could prevent the decrease of thickness of multifidus in patient with ACDF. Implications: The preliminary findings of this study will have important implications for physiotherapist in the management of post-operative spinal patients of ACDF. The recommendation about exercise for patients to reduce pain and improve function need further investigation.
