Effect of Doxycycline and HongHua Injection on Expression of MMP-2、12 and Nerve Function after Acute Spinal Cord Injury in Rarebits

Objective:To investigate the effect of doxycycline and HongHua injection on expression of MMP-2、12 and nerve function after acute spinal cord injury (ASCI) in rarebits.Methods:Rarebits were randomly divided into acontrol group of doxycycline(A group) which received normal saline and a treatment group of HongHua injection (B group) which received HongHua injection.After operation,the rarebits were sacrificed at 8 h,24h,48h,72h and 7d.The tissue sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin(HE) and the injured spinal cord tissue was evaluated by immunohistochemistry and real-time PCR method.Results:The histopathology changes in spinal cord tissue observed with HE staining microscopic examination in group A was worse than that in group B.The expression of MMP-2、12 were observed in two groups and the expression of MMP-2、12 in group A was higher than that in group B(P0.05).Conclusion:This study showed that doxycycline and HongHua injection can inhibit the expression of MMP-2、12 after ASCI in spinal cord injury rarebits and enhance the recovery of nerve function.
