Sa1492 A Paralleled Comparison Between Two Sets of Confocal LASER Endomicroscopy in Gastrointestinal Tract Chang-Qing LI*, Xiu-LI Zuo, Jing Guo, Jing Yuan, Jian-Wei Liu, Yan-Qing LI Gastroenterology, Shandong University Qilu Hospital, Jinan, China Background: Confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) was widely applied into daily practice in gastrointestinal (GI) tract disease nearly for 10 years. Currently there are two sets of CLE: the endoscope-based CLE (eCLE) and the probe-based CLE (pCLE). This study was to compare these two sets of CLEs in different parts of the GI tract. Patients and Methods: Consecutive patients suitable for CLE examination were included in these study. All the patients were randomly assigned for eCLE or pCLE examination. Each patient was examined according to a programmed manner by using one set of CLE. Differences of examination duration, complication rate, CLE image quality, and image acquisition feasibility between two sets for upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy were calculated. Results: A total of 510 patients had CLE examinations, including 322 esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and 176 colonoscopy. Average age was 49.2 (19-73) years, and gender ratio was 273/237 (male/ female). Examination duration of pCLE is significantly shorter than that of eCLE both in EGD and colonoscopy (16.78 vs 18.13 minutes for EGD, PZ 0.027; 32.48 vs 39.89 minutes for colonoscopy, P! 0.001). No complications were found during all the ClE procedures. CLE image quality of two sets of CLEs are comparable in stomach, small intestine and colon, but eCLE seems to be superior to pCLE in examination of esophagus. Image acqusition is easier with pCLE in examination of stomach than eCLE, and the difference is reversed in esophagus. No differences of image acquisition between pCLE and eCLE was found in colonoscopy. Intubation using pCLE and eCLE (vs., PZ0.008). Conclusions: In examination of GI tract by using CLE, advantages and disadvantages of each set of CLE should be taken in account for different parts of GI tract. For examination of stomach and colon, pCLE would be more preferable and eCLE would be more suitable for examination of esophagus. Demographic Data of the Included Patients
