2010
Knowing the leading causes of hospitalizations (IH) contributed to the planning of health actions at the primary care of individuals. The aim of this study was to identify the main causes of hospitalization over time in a cohort of women from pre-, menopause transition and post-menopause living in the city of Passo Fundo/RS, at Hospital Sao Vicente de Paulo (HSVP). The design is a longitudinal population-based cohort of 358 menopausal women in the city of Passo Fundo/RS. We looked for information on the IH of these women in the period 2001-2009, through the records of the medical file of HSVP. The study variables were: name, date of birth, date/age/reason for admission and classifies them as clinical or surgical. Analysis was performed using descriptive statistics. The study was approved by the ethics committee on research at the University of Passo Fundo and by the HSVP. It was found that 19,3% of women hospitalized in HSVP in the period 2001-2009, with 50,5% of those on surgical grounds and 49,5%, clinical. The mean of age of hospitalized women was 52,2 ± 6,2 years old. Cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal and musculoskeletal problems were responsible for 52,4% of admissions of which 27,1% was due to cardiovascular disease. Gynecological, obstetrical and oncological diseases were responsible for 20,3% of admissions. The less frequent causes were respiratory, ophthalmic and haematological, adding 4,22%. Conclusions: The main cause of IH in HSVP by women in pre-, transitional-and postmenopausal women were cardiovascular diseases.
