An unusual case of pituitary fossa aspergillus abscess in AIDS patient mimicking pituitary adenoma: Case report and literature review

2019
Abstract The report states a case of pituitary fossa aspergillus abscess without pituitary invasion in AIDS patient. A 50-year-old AIDS patient was admitted with headache, vomiting, dizziness and weakness. A sellar mass was found to be simulated a pituitary tumor after imaging examination, and operated on via an endoscopic trans-sphenoidal approach. After the necrotic material was found and removed, the intact pituitary was found. Histopathology revealed numerous aspergillus hyphae. Aspergillus sellar abscess should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a sellar mass.
