TEACHER EMPOWERMENT AS PREDICTOR OFPROFESSIONAL COMMITMENT AND JOBSATISFACTION OF TEACHERS WORKING INSECONDARY SCHOOLS

2020
The present research brings in lime light the relationship between Teacher empowerment, professional commitment and Job satisfaction. It identifies which subscale of Teacher empowerment can best predict the outcomes i.e. professional commitment and Job satisfaction. A questionnaire was used to collect the data which was filled by 618 secondary school teachers. Pearson’s correlation and Multiple Regression were used to analyse the data and analyses shows that the teacher’s perception of their empowerment level is significantly associated to their commitment towards profession and their job satisfaction. Among the five subscales of Teacher Empowerment, Status, Engrossment and Self-Efficacy were significant predictors of Professional Commitment while Autonomy in Decision-making, Status and Self-Efficacy were significant predictors of Job Satisfaction. The practical implications of the research are also discussed with special reference to teachers, principals and policy makers.
