Preparation of polymeric coatings by ionized jet deposition method

2018
Ionized jet deposition (IJD) is a novel, very flexible, general purpose technique suitable for deposition of a wide range of materials on various solid substrates. The contribution is aimed at a description of the IJD technique and presentation of the results obtained on coatings prepared by IJD from several model polymers. Morphology, VIS–NIR absorption spectra of the prepared layers and molecular mass before and after the IJD treatment are analyzed to characterize the influence of the IJD deposition process on the starting materials. The new broad maxima observed in VIS–NIR absorption spectra of the IJD deposited layers suggest creation of new conjugated polyenes. The observed insolubility of all the layers then indicates that the IJD process leads to formation of cross-linked polymer networks within the deposited materials.
