EP387 The rate of HPV and smear positivity in the follow-up period of patients that underwent cervical excisional procedures

Introduction/Background To evaluate the rate of combined Pap smear and human papillomavirus test positivity after cervical excisional procedures. Methodology This retrospective study included data of 452 patients who undergone cervical cold knife conization or loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) and post-cone follow-up co-testing. Age, pre-cone/post-cone: HPV status, cervical cytology and cone margin positivity were recorded. The data were analyzed with the Chi square test, Fisher’s exact test for categorical data and Student’s T test for continuous data. Results A total of 452 women were enrolled and all of them were HPV positive before the procedure. At 6 month follow-up, In margin negative patients, HPV test resulted as positive in 28.1%, while, In margin positive patients, HPV test resulted as positive in 35.4% (p=0.592). In patients with normal precone cytology, 7.9% postcone cytology was positive, whereas, in patients with positive precone cytology, 17.8% postcone cytology was positive (p=0.006). If the margin is positive, 20.9% of the patients present with positive smears in the follow-up even further excisional procedures are done. Conclusion Margin positivity after cone, increases the risk of positive cytology and HPV test. Close monitoring of these groups of patients is recommended. Disclosure Nothing to disclose.
