The Inferior Vena Cava and Its Branches and Connections in the Abdomen
2020
Abstract Because of its proximity to the lumbar spine, lateral transpsoas surgery, particularly on the right side, can encounter branches of the inferior vena cava. Furthermore, other important veins in the retroperitoneum include the ascending lumbar and its tributaries. Therefore, spine surgeons performing such procedures require a thorough knowledge of this anatomy.
