The consumption of dietary supplements has been growing within the fitness centers in Brazil, especially among bodybuilders. Despite the increasing use of food supplements, the effects, risks, and benefits of these substances are still controversial in the scientific community. In this context, the objective of this study was to evaluate the consumption of dietary supplements among body body builders. We conducted a cross-sectional study with adults of both genders, aged 19-40 years body builders a gym in the city of Barbacena-MG. The consumption of dietary supplements was evaluated by using a questionnaire composed of 13 questions.  In the data analysis, descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Of the 41 participants, 41.5% reported consuming some food supplement, which 70.6% were men and 29.4% women. Of the users of dietary supplements, 58.8% reported regular consumption, with only 29.4% receiving guidance from nutritionists and 5.9% from doctors. Supplements consisting of proteins and aminoacids were the most consumed (59%), with 11.8% using only this type of supplement and 47.2% associated with one or more supplements (47.2%). The main objective reported for consumption was the gain of muscle mass and strength (53%), considering both this objective alone (23.5%) and in association with other objectives (29.5%). Most sportspeople (58.8%) believe they have reached their goal with the consumption of supplements. The results showed the need for greater clarification of the study participants as the indiscriminate use of dietary supplements and on professionals who are qualified to indicate and prescribe these substances.
