Vestibulospinal testing using cranio-corpo-graphy in patients suffering from acoustic neuroma.

1989
Sandifort (1777) of Leyden University described the post-mortem appearance of an acoustic neuroma (De duro quodam corpusculo, nervo auditorio adhaerente). This tumour plays a unique role in the pathogenesis of vertigo and related symptoms arising in the cerebello-pontine angle and its surroundings. A variety of surgical approaches to the tumour have been described over the years, beginning with Ballance in 1894 (suboccipital), and then Quix (1911, translabyrinthine), Cushing (1918, extracapsular removal), Dandy (1920, total/intra-capsular removal), and House &Hitselberger (1964, middle cranial fossa).
