Membrane-based technology for removal of metallic pollutants

Abstract Separation of metallic contaminants from water has been described in this chapter with special emphasis on heavy-metal separation. Membrane-based separation processes of heavy metals using microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, forward osmosis, and electrodialysis are discussed highlighting the potential and weakness of the membrane-based technologies in separation and recovery of metals from water and wastewater. The possibilities of metal separation using different mixed matric membranes have also been covered in this chapter.
