Fluid flow and heat transfer in a rotating two-pass square channel with smooth walls and axial inward/outward flow

2015
In some new designs, the blade internal channels were expected to be designed in axial direction, which is parallel to the rotation axial direction of the turbine. The fluid flow and heat transfer in this channel may be different with that in the traditional blade internal channels, which were usually designed in radial direction orthogonal to the rotation axial direction of the turbine. In this paper, the fluid flow and heat transfer characters of two-pass square channel with smooth walls and axial inward/outward flow were analyzed by numerical simulation. Four Reynolds numbers, four rotation numbers, and four density ratios were investigated. The rotating radial flow channel was also simulated at the same conditions for comparison. The flow velocity distribution and heat transfer distribution were discussed in details.
