Acquiring a Dataset of Labeled Video Images Showing Discomfort in Demented Elderly

2009
A video acquisition system (ViAS) was built and installed in patients’ rooms to evaluate patients with dementia and patient discomfort. The system included cameras that provide uncompressed color images in 1,024 × 768 pixels and 30 frames per second. A digital discomfort label tool was also developed. Six patients with severe dementia (L7 on the Global Deterioration Scale) were evaluated for 14 consecutive days. Patients’ discomfort levels were recorded during the following intervals before care, during care, after care, and before and after changing the patient’s position.
