Value of capsule endoscopy in the diagnosis of unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding

2020
Objective To investigute the diagnostic value of capsule endoscopy (CE) for unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB). Methods Sixty patients with OGIB in General Hospital of Jinmei Group from January 2014 to February 2018 were divided into group A (n=28) and group B (n=32) according to bleeding stop time. The patients in group A underwent CE examination within 3 day stoping bleeding, while the patients in group B 3 d after stoping bleeding. Results The total positive rate of CE in 60 patients was 90%. The proportion of vascular malformation, multiple ulcers or erosion were higher than other types (P<0.05). The positive detection rate of group A was 100%, the posttive detection of group B rate was 81.25%, the difference was significant (P<0.05); the average hospital stay in group A was shorter than that in group B (P<0.05). Conclusions The positive rate of OGIB diagnosis in CE is higher, and performing examination earlier, can get better diagnosis effect, which can provide guidance for clinical treatment, reduce blood transfusion and shorten hospitalization time. Key words: Gastrointestinal bleeding; Capsule endoscopy; Vascular malformation
