Probiotics, Diet, and Gut Microbiome Modulation in Metabolic Syndromes Prevention

2021
Abstract The prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) is presently an alarming public health problem globally. Although its etiology is not fully understood, MetS is postulated to be correlated with adipose tissue dysfunction, insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, genetic factors, and gut microbiota (GM). Among the several therapeutic approaches explored to alter and improve the metabolic indicators of MetS, dietary intervention specifically probiotic consumption has shown promising health benefits in the prevention and management of the malady. This work highlights the role of diet and focuses on the efficacy of probiotic consumption on the prevention of MetS and modulation of the GM.
