Comparing neutrophil gelatinase associated lipocalin with creatinine to detect renal injury PCI
2019
Objective: To compare new biomarker neutrophil gelatinase associated lipocalin (NGAL) with currently used creatinine (SCr) in early detection of renal injury resulting as adverse effect of contrast angiography.
Methodology: We recruited 151 subject of planed Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). Blood samples were drawn before and serially for 5 days of the PCI and biochemical analysis were done immediately.
Results: Pre and post PCI, serum NGAL levels were markedly different, showing increase of 61 µg/L. The serum creatinine also showed increase after two days.
Conclusion: This study was suggestive of high and rapid predictive value of NGAL in case of acute renal damage post PCI.
