Novel Method for Delivering Highly Conformal Whole Abdominal Irradiation with Helical Tomotherapy

2009
Materials/Methods: This retrospective review was approved by the local IRB. The patients who underwent a hysterectomy for clinical early stage cervical cancer and underwent concomitant chemoradiotherapy with cisplatin (CDDP 40 mg/m2 weekly) from 2005 –2008 were included in this analysis. All patients received 45 Gy to the whole pelvis with IMRT technique, with extended fields and boosts as indicated. Dose constraints were used in treatment planning for the rectum, bladder, small bowel, iliac bone marrow and the femoral heads. The acute and late toxicities were assessed according to RTOG criteria. Kaplan-Meier estimates were used to calculate overall survival, disease free survival, local control and distant metastasis rate.
