The investigation and significance of persistent and recurrent urinary infection in children.

1958
SUMMARY Seventeen boys and thirty-four girls were investigated because of persistent or recurrent urinary infection. The investigation of these patients is discussed in detail and the limitations of various radiological techniques are considered. The importance of intravenous pyelography and micturition cystography in the initial investigation is stressed. It was noted that in boys, congenital anomalies causing obstructions or stasis were present in 65 per cent., whereas in girls obstructive anomalies were rare. However, in the latter, abnormal widening of the internal vesical sphincter and vesico-ureteral reflux were common.
