Precocious prosthesis in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA)

2007
The skeleton maturation is the most important point to consider in the precocious prosthesis (age under 20 years) in patients with JIA. Surgeon should not operate if there is even the smallest growing cartilage, that could compromise the implant stability in a short time. This kind of surgery in young patients meets some problems: technical problems (small bone size, articular deformity, soft tissue contractures) and psychological problems; that is the reason why is essential the total involvement of the patients and their family during the whole surgical procedure, from the pre-operating planning during the post-operating time
