Challenges and Complications of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

2017
Carpal tunnel release (CTR) is a common procedure with a relatively low complication rate ranging from 1 to 25%; however, some of those complications can be potentially devastating. This chapter reviews complications following carpal tunnel release surgery, both theoretical and those cited in the literature, ranging from the common to uncommon. A review of the evaluation and treatment of complications following CTR is included. A thorough understanding of the risks inherent to the procedure and the ability to proficiently evaluate and manage them is an indispensable trademark of the capable hand surgeon.
