Additives for mitigating the degradation of catalyst layers in fuel cells

Ligand additives having two or more coordination sites in close proximity may be used in the polymer electrolyte membrane electrode assemblies in solid polymer electrolyte fuel cells, to reduce the dissolution of the catalyst, especially of the cathode, and thus the reduce degradation of the fuel cell over time.
