CFDF – A New Fourier RTOF-Diffractometer for Stress and Powder Diffraction Investigations

1998
Abstract The present work deals with the results of measurements performed recently with the Cairo Fourier diffractometer facility (CFDF). The CFDF is based on the reverse time-of-flight (RTOF) method and is optimized for neutron diffraction measurements at scattering angle 2θ = 90°. The CFDF performance is assessed and the main parameters are given. The neutron guide system attached to the CFDF provides a thermal neutron flux of ∼ 106 n/cm2s at the sample position which is free from fast neutron and gamma-ray background. It has been found, from measurements with different powder samples, that this value of the thermal neutron flux is adequate for neutron diffraction measurements, at scattering angle 2θ = 90° and d-spacing values between 0.7 and 2.5 A with 0.52% resolution.
