Standard and Advanced Echocardiography

Echocardiography is the first-line imaging tool in myocarditis, although its sensitivity in providing a definite diagnosis is rather limited. However, recent developments in technology have increased the diagnostic potential of this technique. In this chapter, we have reviewed the main standard transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) features in various myocarditis scenarios, as well as advanced techniques, in particular, the use of strain imaging, contrast and three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography which can better assist the clinician in the diagnostic process.
