Effect of Varying Levels of Groundnut Haulms in the Rations on Nitrogen Fractions and Tvfa Concentration in the Rumen of Gir Bullocks

2001
Four fistulated Gir bullocks. (225–250 kg B.W.; 3–4 y age) weee offered diets varying in groundnut haulm proportion in a Latin square design. Four diets contained groundnut haulm, green jowar, wheat straw and concentrate mixture at the ratio of 40:20:0:40 (T1), (30:30:0:40) (T2), 20:40:0:40 (T3) and 20:20:20:40 (T4). Protein and Ca content of groundnut gotar were higher than green jowar. After feeding for a preliminary period of 30 d, rumen liquor was collected and analyzed for pH, different nitrogen (N) fractions and TVFA content. There was no significant difference between treatments for pH, TVFA, ammooia-N, Total -N, Soluble -N, and non-protein -N. It is concluded that feeding groundnut haulm upto 40 per cent in the maintanence ration had no adverse effect on rumen matabolites in bullocks.
