INFLUENCIA DE LA DIETA Y DEL NIVEL SOCIOECONÓMICO EN EL PERFIL LIPÍDICO DE NIÑOS EN DOS POBLACIONES DE VENEZUELA INFLUENCE OF DIET AND SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS ON LIPID PATTERN IN CHILDREN OF TWO POPULATIONS OF VENEZUELA

2007
We evaluate the association between diet, socioeconomic status and lipid pattern in children of two venezuelan populations. 144 boys and girls, ages 6-12 year old were analyzed; 80 of Chacopata and 75 Campoma population (Sucre state). They were divided in five socioeconomic groups: marginal class (V), laboral class (IV), middlelow class (III), middle high class (II) and high class (I) in regard to their parents occupation and educational attainment. The evaluation included a blood analysis of serum triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (CT), very low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), LDL/HDL rations; and nutritious habits determined by 24 hours anamnesic test. In both populations, the total cholesterol was low. Triglycerides and lipoprotein fractions were at the normal references range.. The children presented a low caloric consumption, so far The Chacopatas children showed high consumption of proteins and the children of Campoma presented a high lipids consumption. We observed a positive association between the consumption of carbohydrates with the LDL in Chacopatas children (r= 0,30, p< 0,01); while in Campomas children, we observed a negative association in these parameters r= -0,27, p<0,05). The LDL/HDL ration was higher in Campoma than Chacopata. The low cholesterol total level have correlated with low socioeconomic status but do not with diet.
