Physical Activity and Preterm Birth: Risk Factor or Benefit?

2018
Although risk factors and determinants of spontaneous preterm birth have been identified, effective primary and secondary prevention strategies to reduce the global incidence and neonatal consequences of prematurity remain elusive. Physically demanding work (prolonged standing, heavy lifting, physical exertion, occupational fatigue, demanding posture) during pregnancy has been associated with an increased risk of preterm birth (van Beukering MDM, et al. Int Arch Occup Environ Health 2014; 87:809-34). This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
