Some structural geology findings from the construction railwaycorridor IV (Moldanubian, Bohemian Massif)
2016
In the modernization of railway corridor IV between Prague and
Ceske Budějovice is planned 10 new tunnels. Currently is
completed and in operation five tunnels between Bystřice u
Benesova and Votice stations and one more near Sudoměřice u
Tabora. Total length of tunnels is over 3000 m. In the future,
we are planning two shorter tunnels close to Mezno and two long
tunnels near Hluboka nad Vltavou. During the construction of
the tunnels it was possible to obtain a wide range of data and
precise information about the geological structure at the
eastern edge of the Bohemian Plutonic Complex. In
discontinuities in open cuts and in tunnel excavation were
carried out data collections for paleostress analysis based on
measurement of fault surfaces and striations including the
determination of the sence of movement. Analysis was performed
in the program MARK (Kernstockova, Melichar 2011). By analyzing
data from near Votice were identified two main phases (Fig. 1):
the first phase with the orientations of the principal normal
stresses σ1 136/4, σ2 44/26 and σ3 324/64 and the value of the
Lode parameter -0.41; the second phase orientation σ1 31/5, σ2
129/62 and σ3 298/28 and the value of the Lode parameter +0.06.
Third, much less distinct phase, with the orientation of σ1
150/63, σ2 29/15, σ3 292/22 and with value of the Lode
parameter +0.6. Individual stages are not named according to
the time sequence. Near Sudoměřice u Tabora was made data
collection of few faults with striations. Paleostress analysis
showed 4 phases of stress. Deformation Phase 1 is reflected by
almost sub-horizontal inclination of the maximum compressive
stress σ1. Inclination σ3 is steep toward to the SE. Major
normal stress σ2 is slightly sloping to the W. Deformation
Phase 2 is characterized by sub-horizontal inclination σ2
toward the NNW, slightly sloping tension σ1 for SSE and normal
stress σ3 is steeply dipping to the east. Deformation Phase 3
is the smallest normal stress σ3 a slight bow toward VSV,
subhorizontal σ2 heading to the northwest and the largest
stress σ1 has a southwesterly direction with an inclination of
73 degrees. The maximum compressive stress of deformation phase
4 σ1 directed the deformation phase to the west with slope of
42 degrees, the relative direction of extension σ3 is to the
northeast with slight inclination of 22 ° and stress σ2 is
oriented 146/40.
