Long-term outcome of surgically treated gastro-intestinal disorders in buffaloes

The study was conducted to evaluate the long-term outcome of surgically treated buffaloes (n=77) with various gastrointestinal disorders. Most of them were she buffaloes aged 5–6 yr, presented with history of partial to complete anorexia, decreased milk yield and absence of defecation/scant feces. The haematology revealed the presence of absolute or relative neutrophilia in most of the cases and radiographs were helpful to diagnose higher proportion of buffaloes suffering from traumatic peritonitis and diaphragmatic hernia. After appropriate surgical intervention, three follow-ups of these cases on 10th, 60th and 180th day intervals post-treatment procedure were undertaken. 57% cases survived up to 180 days after the surgery.
