Differential utilization of the surface of aluminum oxide in the production of complex and mixed catalysts Communication 3. Catalysts Al2O3/Al2O3 and dependence of their activity on the nature of the carrier

1971
1. It was shown for the example of dehydration of isopropanol in the adsorption layer that the nature of the surface inhomogeneity of the carrier depends substantially on the activity of complex catalysts of the Al2O3/Al2O3 type. 2. The differences in the catalytic activity of the samples of Al2O3 studied are not associated with their volume properties and are preserved when the surface layer is completed or partially dissolved. These differences are evidently determined by the properties of the active sites, which comprise only a negligible fraction of the surface. 3. It was hypothesized that both gradual coverage of the entire surface and layer-by-layer adsorption on the most active sites are possible in the case of adsorption production of the catalysts.
