Correlation of Optic Nerve Involvement and Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease

2019
Background: About the risk influencing the function of optic nerve among chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Aims: This work aim is to evaluate optic nerve involvement among Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (COPD) patients in relation to disease severity. Material and Methods: The present study included 30 COPD patients, in aged from 40 year old to 57 year old. The study was enrolled from August 2015 to November 2016. All patients were subjected to: general, local examinations, laboratory investigations and radiological imaging. Conclusions: This study confirms that there were subclinical Visual evoked potential (VEP) impairment resulted from COPD illness, which were related to the severity of the disease. Recommendation: Annual assessment of VEP in COPD patients is recommended for early detection of neurophysiological impairment.
