A congenital pink plaque

REPORT OF A CASE A 26-year-old white woman sought medical attention for a birthmark on her abdomen. The growth was stable in size and asymptomatic but had become "pinker" over the last several years. There was no family history of a similar skin abnormality, and the patient denied any other dermatologic or medical problems. Physical examination revealed a 3.0×2.5-cm faintly pink plaque studded with multiple papules on the left side of her abdomen ( Figure 1 ). No other cutaneous abnormalities were seen. A shave biopsy specimen was obtained from the skin lesion ( Figure 2 and Figure 3 ). What is your diagnosis? DIAGNOSIS: Basaloid follicular hamartoma. HISTOPATHOLOGIC FINDINGS Histologically, the lesion demonstrated anastomosing cords and strands of squamoid epithelium with smaller nests of basaloid cells.
