Measurement of two-photon production of the χc2

1994
The CLEO II detector is used to search for the production of [chi][sub [ital c]2] states in two-photon interactions. We use the signature [chi][sub [ital c]2][r arrow][gamma][ital J]/[psi][r arrow][gamma][ital l][sup +][ital l][sup [minus]] with [ital l]=[ital e],[mu]. Using 1.49 fb[sup [minus]1] of data taken with beam energies near 5.29 GeV, the two-photon width of the [chi][sub [ital c]2] is determined to be [Gamma]([chi][sub [ital c]2][r arrow][gamma][gamma])=1.08[plus minus]0.30(stat)[plus minus]0.26(syst) keV, in agreement with predictions from perturbative QCD.
