Measuring deformations due to liquefaction in Urayasu City, Japan using permenant scatterers

2015
As a result of the M9.0 megathrust 2011 Tohoku earthquake that struck Japan on March 11, 2011; several areas suffered from local deformations due to soil liquefactions. Measuring soil liquefaction deformations is not an easy task because of the total loss of signal coherence in the affected regions. The main target of this analysis is to estimate structure deformation due to soil liquefaction phenomenon using PS-InSAR technique in Urayasu city, Japan. The main importance of this analysis is that, first, it is rather difficult to retrieve deformations due to soil liquefaction using multi-look InSAR analysis because of the coherence loss, second, it is unusual to employ PS-InSAR in major shock earthquake analysis, and third, soil liquefaction can be a real hazard in seismic active regions like Japan.
