Transoral Sonography in the Diagnosis of Peritonsillar Abscess.

Our study population included 10 patients with clinically suspected peritonsillar abscess (PTA).Nine patients actually had PTA and one patient had peritonsillitis. All patients were subjected to a transoral sonographic examination using the RT fino apparatus (Yokogawa Medical Systems) equipped with a MZ 6.5MHz probe.In all patients with PTA, the existence of the disease was demonstrated. The present study showed that transoral sonography can be useful in the diagnosis of peritonsillar abscess.
