Retrospective analysis of explantation of electrical neuromodulation implants

2013
Approximately 14% are eventually explanted. Poor pain relief due to inadequate coverage of the painful area remains the commonest cause of explantation. Improvement in outcomes must focus on patient selection, pre-trial pain mapping and patient expectations. Conclusion Results We analysed the SCS database of our hospital from January 2008 to December 2011. We collected all the explanted cases. We identified a total of 363 full implants over the 4 year period (81 in 2008, 89 in 2009, 99 in 2010 and 94 in 2011).
