WANGANUI STRATA OF THE MANGAOHANE PLATEAU, NORTHERN RUAHINE RANGE, TAIHAPE

SUMMARY Te Aute and Mangatoro Formations (Upper and Lower Pliocene) unconformably overlie Ruahine greywacke in the Mangaohane Plateau area. The strata consist of shallow water, coarse greywacke conglomerates, quartzo-sandstones, siltstones and clastic limestones. Faunal and sedimentologic relationships indicate high energy sedimentation adjacent to an emergen! greywacke fault block during Wanganui times.
