Identification of the pathogen causing anthracnose of Chinese dwarf cherry

2011
A new fruit disease of Chinese dwarf cherry was observed in Xingcheng,Liaoning Province. This disease spread rapidly in the field and caused serious loss of the fruits production. In the study,a fungal strain isolated from the fruit was confirmed to be responsible for this new disease, and identified as Colletotrichum acutatum based on the morphology, cultural characters on PDA plate, sequence analysis of ribosomal DNA-ITS and PCR amplification with C.acutatum-specific primers CaInt2 and ITS4.This is the first report of anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum acutatum on the fruits of Chinese dwarf cherry.
