MRI Appearance of Florid Cystic Endosalpingiosis of the Uterus: a Case Report

2010
Endosalpingiosis is a non-neoplastic proliferation of ectopic tubal epithelium. Itmay be found incidentally or the patients may present with chronic pelvic pain. Itmay resemble a gynecologic malignancy on imaging findings and clinicians andradiologists should be aware of this benign entity to render a correct diagnosisand to avoid over-treatment. We report here the MR imaging appearance of acase of florid cystic endosalpingiosis. ndosalpingiosis is a non-neoplastic process that’s characterized by aproliferation of ectopic tubal epithelium, and this malady is most oftendiagnosed incidentally or it may present with chronic pelvic pain. Therehas been a report on the florid form of endosalpingiosis with cystification thatmimicked a neoplastic process (1). To the best of our knowledge, the MR imagingappearance of florid cystic endosalpingiosis infiltrating both the uterus and thesurrounding tissue and that looked like a gynecologic malignancy has not beenpreviously described in the medical literature. We report here on the MR imagingappearance of a case of florid cystic endosalpingiosis that involved the uterine, thecervical serosa and the adjoining pelvic tissue, and this all resembled a malignancy.
