Ultrasonic features of an ovarian cystohemangioma; a case report

1991
Hemangiomas are among the rarest ovarian tumors, and 2/3 of them are incidental findings at surgery or autopsy [l]. In fact, ovarian hemangiomas are usually monolateral, though bilateral exemples have been described [2], and asymptomatic. Their size ranges between 1 and several centimeters. When very large, they can cause abdominal swelling, abdominal pain (often due to torsion of the mass) or, rarely, ascites [3-51. To date there are only about 40 reports in the literature, but none of them deals with the sonographic aspect of the tumor. Aim of this study is to describe the sonographic features of a large monolateral ovarian cystohemangioma causing acute abdominal swelling and blood-tinged ascites.
