A Case of Inflammatory Fibroid Polyp of the Descending Colon

1981
A case of inflammatory fibroid polyp of the descending colon is reported. The patient was a 2 year old female with the chief complaint of occasional prolapse of a tumor from her anus. Her past history was negative for allergic or parasitic disease. Her hemogram did not show eosiriophilia. Stool examination reveaed bloody stool, but parasite was nega-tive. Barium enema studies revealed a large filling defect in the descending colon. As malignancy was unable to be excluded, partial colectomy was performed. The size of the tumor was 3.5 × 2.7 × 1.2 cm and the tip was ulcerated. The cut surface was firm and grayish-white in color. Histological diagnosis of the excised specimen was inflammatory fibroid polyp of the descending colon. Inflammatory fibroid polyp of the colon is a rare disease and up to the present time, about 16 cases were reported in the world ; our case is the third in Japan and was the youngest of all.
