Blunt Trauma Causing Rupture of the Abdominal Aorta: Report of a Case

2006
Blunt trauma to the abdominal aortic is much less frequent than analogous injury to the thoracic aorta, and has rarely been reported before. Although the clinical presentations of such trauma may vary, urgent treatment of this potentially lethal injury following rapid recognition of the injury, appears to offer the best chances for patient survival. This report demonstrates the successful management of a 21-yearold male who suffered disruption of the abdominal aorta due to blunt trauma as a consequence of a traffic accident, and who survived following urgent aortareconstruction surgery featuring autogenous venous grafting.
