Bio and hemocompatible coatings

2008
Biomaterials or biomedical materials are substances manufactured or processed to be used in or as Medical Devices intended to interact with biological systems. These technologies, materials and products play an important role in the medical device field and can be positioned among the high technology materials applications. Biomaterials have enabled new therapies, new materials have been developed and existing materials have found new applications in this field. The use of surface treatments, for improved performance for tribology, corrosion, fatigue, degradation and biocompatibility should see steady growth. In addition they are considered as an economical challenge versus the development of new materials. The future of coating of biomaterials is likely to be closely linked to developments of coating other advanced materials such as space‐optical materials and microelectronic materials. In addition controllability of deposition conditions and of the quality of coatings on a great variety of substrates, w...
