Sacral neuromodulation for urinary retention caused by sexual abuse.

Objective: To report that urinary retention as a result of sexual abuse can respond to sacral neuromodulation. Method: In a 38-year-old woman in whom chronic, complete urinary retention developed as a result of psychological and sexual abuse in childhood, sacral neuromodulation was added to her therapeutic regimen in an interdisciplinary approach. Results: The combination of psychotherapy and neuromodulation restored the ability to avoid, whereas psychotherapy alone had not.
