Influence of Low Doses of Gestagens on Some Pituitary-Ovarian Functions

1971
The idea of using low doses of gestagens as oral contraceptives (OC) was first explored by Rudel et al. (19). In recent years several reports have appeared describing the clinical results during this kind of treatment, for a summary see (9). Some authors (3, 18) seem to consider the major contraceptive effect of these drugs to be on the cervical mucus, making it hostile to spermatozoa while other investigators (6, 15, 22) believe that this can not be the only explanation.
