Nutritional recommendations after sleeve gastrectomy

2021
Abstract Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) was initially proposed as a first-stage procedure to perform in higher risk patients, but most of them did not undergo the second stage. LSG is a perfect fit for enhanced recovery after surgery programs with early oral intake in the same day of surgery. The patient could be discharged in the first of second postoperative day. In the first 15 postoperative days, liquids ± pureed foods are recommended, and soft solids may be included in the third and fourth weeks. Five to six feedings a day are recommended for a diet rich in protein foods (60 g/day), fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grains, low in fat, and simple sugars. An adequate water intake of about 1500 mL/day should be achieved.
