Endoscopic (laparoscopic) cholecystectomy offers a significant breakthrough in treatment over other methods for the majority of symptomatic cholelithiasis subjects. Because of the removal of the diseased gallbladder, including stones, final cure is achieved resulting in less cost to patients, third-party carriers, government, and society. This article discusses the indications, instrumentation, technique, complications, and advantages of laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
