A novel cubic Ni2P/FeP electrocatalyst with cruciform surfaces for hydrogen evolution reaction

2021
Abstract The development of high performance electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction is desirable to meet our future energy demands. In this context, we report the successful synthesis of cubic Ni2P/FeP hybrid electrocatalysts with cruciform surfaces through a facile phosphidization of Ni-Fe Prussian blue analog (PBA). Benefiting from the synergistic effect of unique microstructure and two-components, the optimized catalyst (NiFe-1) delivers remarkable electrocatalytic activity towards hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) with a low overpotential (160 mV at 10 mA cm−2), small Tafel slope (104 mV·dec−1) and excellent stability in alkaline condition. This work presents a new strategy in designing transition metal phosphide cubic hybrid electrocatalysts with enhanced HER - activity.
