Temperature-Dependent Solubility of Solid Electrolyte Interphase on Silicon Electrodes

2019
In realistic applications of electrical vehicles, the lithium-ion battery must be capable of operating in a wide temperature range. Temperature variation has the potential to greatly affect the stability of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) re-sponsible for the reversibility of the lithium-ion battery. In this work, the solubility of SEI on the silicon (Si) electrode was investigated at temperatures ranging from –10 °C to 50 °C. Through use of an electrochemical protocol with a high cathodic cut-off voltage, the SEI behavior was investigated independent of Si deformation.
